Motion design agency for SaaS: how to choose (2026 guide)

An honest guide to hiring a motion design agency for your SaaS in 2026: options, real prices, timelines, questions to ask and red flags.

By Régis Doleagbenou · updated

THE SHORT ANSWER

Choose a motion design agency for your SaaS on three things: a portfolio of real software interfaces (not just characters), a written scope with revisions and file ownership, and a timeline that matches your release pace. Expect $5,000–$15,000 and 4–8 weeks for a custom 60-second video from a studio (Vidico). For monthly needs, compare subscriptions, including Sitso.

What a motion design agency does for a SaaS company

A SaaS company mostly buys motion design for the same handful of jobs: a launch video, an explainer for the homepage, feature release clips, product demos, video ads and onboarding videos. What makes SaaS different from other clients is the interface: the best SaaS motion work choreographs the real product, and it has to be updated when the product changes.

A classic agency process runs in stages: discovery and brief, script, style frames, storyboard, animatic, animation, voice and sound, then revisions. Vidico breaks a standard 60–90 second project into one to two weeks of script, about a week of storyboard, two to three weeks of animation and a week of revisions (Vidico).

What motion design agencies charge

Agencies price by project, by hour or by month. On Clutch, which compiles verified client reviews, the most common rate for video production companies is $100–$149 an hour and the average reviewed project comes to about $42,000, a figure pulled up by live-action and multi-video work. For a single animated video, published studio prices are lower: Yum Yum Videos collected 61 agency quotes for the same explainer brief in July 2026, ranging from $2,800 to $27,000 with a median of $9,680.

Some studios publish entry points: Breadnbeyond lists packages “from $1,000” with a standard delivery of 5 to 7 weeks, while Chicago studio Demo Duck recommends budgeting at least $16,000 and describes a typical project as 8 to 10 weeks. The spread is real: you are buying very different amounts of senior time. Our explainer video cost guide breaks the price down by style and line item.

What to check before you sign

Showreels all look good. These are the things that separate a good SaaS partner from a good showreel.

  • Real software in the portfolio. Look for videos that animate actual product interfaces, not only characters and icons. Ask which ones were made in-house.
  • A range of styles. If every project looks the same, yours will too.
  • A written scope. Length, formats (16:9, 9:16, cut-downs), number of revision rounds and the price of an extra one.
  • Ownership and licenses. Who owns the final and project files, and what the music and voice licenses cover.
  • Update policy. What it costs to change a UI shot when your product ships a redesign.
  • Speed for small jobs. A feature clip that takes six weeks will miss its release.

10 questions to ask a motion design agency

Send these before the first call. The answers tell you more than the pitch deck.

  • Which SaaS products have you animated, and can I see the interface work?
  • Who will actually animate my video: your team or subcontractors?
  • What is included in the price: script, voice, music, sound design, formats?
  • How many revision rounds, at which stages, and what does an extra round cost?
  • What is the timeline from kick-off to final files, and what can delay it?
  • Do I get the project files, and in which software?
  • What does the music license cover: paid ads, all regions, forever?
  • How do you handle UI changes after delivery?
  • Can you deliver a series in the same style for future releases?
  • Do you use AI in production, and for what?

Red flags

None of these is a deal-breaker alone, but two or more deserve a second quote.

  • No software interfaces in the portfolio, only characters and stock icons.
  • A price with no written scope of formats, revisions and licenses.
  • Vague answers on who animates or on file ownership.
  • Testimonials or case-study numbers you can't trace to a real company.
  • A timeline that ignores your launch date.

Agency, freelancer or subscription?

If you need one important film a year with live action, real presenters or a big campaign idea, hire an agency: it is the right tool and worth the time. If you have a small budget and the time to write briefs and chase timelines, a strong freelancer can be excellent. If you ship every month and need a launch, a feature clip or an ad most months, the per-project model gets slow and expensive, which is why agencies such as Vidico now sell monthly subscriptions and why we built Sitso.

Where Sitso fits (disclosure: it's ours)

Sitso is not a traditional agency. It is an AI motion video creator built only for SaaS: you paste your URL, it reads your brand and interface, proposes three ideas, writes, directs and animates the video, and quality judges review every cut before delivery. Sitso Pro is $2,500 a month (or $25,000 a year, two months free) for one video a month up to 1:15, delivered in under 4 hours, in 4K 16:9 and 9:16 with 3 thumbnails, with unlimited changes until you validate. Extra videos are $2,500.

Pick an agency over Sitso for live action, filmed people, long-form videos or an integrated campaign. Pick Sitso when you want agency-level product videos often and fast. Either way, judge on your own product: the 20-second teaser is free. For a side-by-side view, read Sitso vs a motion design agency.
